Dr. Leslie O’Neill obtained her Bachelor’s Degree, cum laude and with honors in psychology, from the University of Missouri. She obtained her Ph.D. and MS in clinical psychology at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL. While there, she received the Kirk R. Danhour Memorial Award for Outstanding Graduate Student in her program. She was trained specifically in clinical health psychology and utilizing biopsychosocial interventions in work with medical populations. Dr. O’Neill has since focused primarily on individual, conjoint and group psychotherapy for adults and adolescents living with chronic illness.
Over the course of her career, Dr. O’Neill has had experience helping people living with HIV, cancer, spinal cord injury, cardiovascular disease, dialysis, and primary care patients and geriatric populations. She has developed special interests and areas of expertise in work with LGBTQA adults, those suffering from anxiety and depressive disorders and couples seeking psychotherapy. Dr. O’Neill’s primary theoretical orientation is cognitive-behavioral, incorporating both motivational interviewing and mindfulness techniques when appropriate.
