My goal is to help you bring about lasting changes that will make you happy. What makes you (specifically you) happy could take many different forms. You may want to improve your relationship with your romantic partner, your relationship with your family, or even your relationship with yourself. I take a good hard look at the foundations of these relationships and walk you through ways to strengthen these relationships and create space for greater authenticity in those areas of your life.
To me, authenticity includes sexual freedom and freedom of sexual expression. It also includes feeling comfortable culturally, racially, and in your gender identity. I practice therapy with the belief that you possess the inner knowledge for what is truly best for you. My role as a therapist is to help you empower yourself. I work from an antiracist and feminist perspective during therapy.
I mainly use a blend of Humanistic, Narrative, and Collaborative approaches in therapy. I believe everyone has inherent good and can change for the better, that everyone has a unique story which will work to heal themselves, and that that story is the driving force to creating change. I have been trained to treat clients in a systemic manner, meaning that I consider all the relationships you have (ie: friends, family, culture) when I am working with you. I have worked extensively with clients of a wide range of racial backgrounds and have used my language skills of Spanish and Mandarin Chinese to meet client needs.
I earned my Masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Iona College and my Bachelors degree in Family Science from The University of Maryland College Park.
