Helping people to live more fulfilling lives. That is both my passion and the primary goal I have for my clients as a Personal Therapy and Couples/Relationship therapist. I specialize in helping clients cope with anxiety, depression, past hurts, relationship challenges, and personal growth/life transitions. I also enjoy working with people who have issues or concerns about sexual health and people who want to increase their level of intimacy and sexual satisfaction. My methods embrace the deeply transformative work of Emotionally Focused Therapy, which explores the negative cycles and attachment bonds that can affect couples and individuals seeking change in their relationships.
My work in the field of Sexology, and within the LGBTQ, Kink, and Consenseual Non-Monogamy communities, has given me in-depth knowledge of the spectrum of modern relationships. Whether you are single, in a primary relationship, triad, quad, V, non-hierarchical, or any other love constellation, I provide a safe space to discuss delicate topics and I strive to make each of my clients feel comfortable and understood.
Like many people, my current life’s work was not the first career path I engaged as a younger person. That path, one of predictability and simplicity, was a reflection of values I had been taught. I went to school, got a job, got married young, and was well on my way to the house with a white picket fence…. while this road was (and is) fine for others, it did not reflect the totality of the true me. That life that was carved out for me did not provided the sense of accomplishment that I had anticipated upon reaching my goals…
And, when I took a good long look at myself, I realized these goals were in fact entirely the reflections of the expectations of other people in my life.
My true desire was to be found in greater self-exploration and by taking a path to discover and embrace my own sexual orientation and relationship style, as well as my emotional and spiritual identity. This journey led me to reading about and attending several lectures and workshops that had piqued my interest in topics such as human sexuality, relationships and intimacy, and around gender and sexual identity.
After a great deal of soul-searching, I decided to pursue a career in Sexology. It was upon my immersion in the Human Sexuality Studies Master’s Program at San Francisco State University (SFSU) that I began to truly focus my interest in helping couples and individuals seeking to heighten, strengthen and improve their intimate relationships. Normalizing sexual behaviors, encouraging people to pursue and explore their sexuality to create stronger, meaningful relationships – all the while fostering an understanding that different is not wrong – became my life’s work and is now my focus and my heart’s calling.
After completing the research- and theory-based program at SFSU I earned a second Master’s degree in Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy. Both programs have made it possible for me to specialize my practice around issues pertaining to sexuality – in health, relationships and intimacy.
I realize it may be difficult for some individuals and couples to open up about their most intimate issues and desires. My dual educational background and my deep commitment to helping you discover your own path – along with my easy-going nature, sense of humor and lack of judgement – can help you feel assured that you that you are safe to express yourself, and be yourself. Likewise, my personal experience in sexual minority communities and advocacy for sexual freedom can also reassure you that you are valued and supported.
Above all, I want to bring joy to this process and never forget the value of the journey itself. The path of life should not be so serious that we forget to have fun. And while I acknowledge that therapy can be difficult at times, I hope my approach proves to be both beneficial and inspiring.
