Katherine W. Smith, PSYD, LMFT
Hello! I’m Dr. Katherine W. Smith, PsyD, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist LMFT#115452.
I am a psychodynamic therapist. I provide psychotherapy services to residents of California, both in-person (Los Angeles, CA) and via secure video-conferencing and telephone.
You’re wondering if I’m the right therapist for you. You want to know if I have experience working with people like you or if I have experience with a particular mental health issue. For example, you may experience practical problems like relationship issues (including friendship, romance, sex, kink, etc.), loneliness or isolation, difficulty with life goals and staying motivated, or fatigue. Or, for instance, you might have a hard time feeling understood by others. You may want to feel more confident and authentic. However, you’re just not sure what to do about it. You need help figuring it out, and that’s what I do.
It’s about the whole you: your gifts and your strengths, as well as your symptoms or problems. I work with people of all ages, genders, sexual orientations, and diverse backgrounds and experiences. I also treat many mental health issues, such as depression, anxiety, adjustment disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), ADD or ADHD, Asperger’s or “high functioning” ASD, and personality disorders. While I am trained in psychological assessment and diagnosis, it is not the heart of my psychotherapy. The heart of my therapy practice is getting to know you as a whole person: that parts that you show the world, the parts that you’ve kept to yourself, and the parts you avoid. When we are able to make contact with all the different parts of you, a better way of being becomes possible.
