Ashley Gomez Hotko, LMFT
Welcome! Congratulations on taking the first step towards seeking mental health services for yourself. If you are experiencing symptoms of trauma, depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, grief and loss, family or relationship issues, enduring a difficult life transition, or isolation due the pandemic, I would love the opportunity to hear your story and support you. Carrying our pain without addressing it may not only make life less satisfying, but it can take a toll on other aspects of our health. Mental health IS health, and therapy can be medicinal for untangling the mind and heart.
My background and experience:
I have 12 years of experience in the field, providing social services and counseling to people of diverse backgrounds and all age levels. My theoretical approach is a flexible blend of cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, motivational interviewing, with practices of mindfulness, and always served with an emphasis on strengths, along with warmth, relatability, and humor. I am also LGBTQ competent and identified (and proud).
A little about me:
As a youth, I struggled with hardcore anxiety, before I even knew what it was! I just thought my chest hurt all the time, and that I just had a poor immune system. It turned out that I had gone years with untreated trauma, and had developed some strong symptoms of anxiety affecting all aspects of my health. Receiving mental health services absolutely improved my quality of life. It taught me to advocate for myself, love the part of me where the pain comes from, and make self-care a priority. I am excited and thrilled to pass on all that I have learned. When not providing therapy, I am enjoying the laughter of my loved ones, playing with my pets, and getting fresh air and exercise.
